WINNERS OF THE GOLDEN PAW HERO DOG AWARDS ANNOUNCED

The Irish Kennel Club, alongside celebrity judge Sharon Shannon and Gain Pet Food, announced Darcy, a three year old stability dog, as the overall winner of the Golden Paw Hero Dog Awards 2014.

Darcy changed the life of Nathan who was diagnosed at three years of age with Cerebral Palsy Spastic Diplegia. This has affected Nathan with balance coordination problems, delayed speech and language, sensory problems, difficulty with fine motor and social skills. Nathan was partnered with Darcy when he was five. Since then, Nathan’s life, and consequentially his family’s lives, has changed immeasurably. Nathan trusts Darcy and with that his confidence, social skills, coordination and speech all which have dramatically improved.

Other winners included:

–      Harley, a three year old Collie / Springer, who received the Exemplary Companion Dog / Life Changing Dog award

–      Darcy, a three year old Golden Retriever, was the winner of the Therapy Dog / Guide Dog category

–      Koa, a ten year old mixed Collie, was the recipient of the Bravery Dog award

–      Barney, a 4 year old English Springer-Spaniel, was chosen as the winner of the Law Enforcement category

–      Search and Rescue Dog category saw joint winners Ben, Max and Kram pick up the award
